    Default My new slippers

I want to show you my latest (finished) knitting project: super slippers!

Here is the ravelry link: (you can see all the details there, no need to log on to ravelry)

They are double knit, mitred, have a garter plarn sole and stockinette tops. I am very proud of my design! And happy at how warm they are. I really needed them! I hope they hold up well - the ones I had made a couple of years back simply disintegrated, that's why I made these so strong. Crossing my fingers they last!

Nice! I'm not a knitter but they look like you did a great job and they look very comfy! :)

One thing I have had shared with me to make socks last longer is to use a tighter gauge, giving the stitches less ability to rub against each other. I have worked worsted weight socks at a gauge of 5 stitches per inch and know others who did so also. Looking at your picture it is hard to say what gauge you are using. Perhaps rechecking that and working at a tighter gauge might make a more comfortable and longer lasting pair of slippers than using plastic for the soles.

    Thanks Sherongb, that makes sense!

I still don't know how these will fare... The sole is double knit, though, so I am not putting my feet against the plastic but a second layer of yarn, so they are comfy indeed.
Here is a progress pic so you can see what I mean:

Ah, like a leather bottom in plarn instead, with the yarn as a liner. I don't know plarn will hold up, its an interesting experiement.

Exactly! That is how I think about it, an experiment. Will let you know how it goes after the winter!

So many needles!! Grats to you, I can barely use two needles! :) Now you can try making some i-cords for the shoe laces. I think that will tie it all together, excuse the pun!

Love your idea for double knit mitered squares. Makes all kinds of sense. And the plarn idea is genius. Sheron is absolutely right about knitting at a tighter gauge. The sturdier the fabric, the longer it will last. If you're using worsted weight yarn, I'd go down to a size 3 to 3.5mm. Thanks for sharing, Monica.

Those are super!!!! I love your stitch marker too!!!!!! Another thought for the sole area would be cassette tapes or video tapes that are past their prime. I had just asked Hubby earlier today if he had any that were in that category. My goodness but I think he would have been happier to run up and down the street naked than to hand over one of his beloved audio tapes. LOL I look forward to hearing out how the plarn works out.

BTW mom and I were visiting in the car after taking son back to Uni today and that is when the subject came up for us. She makes scrubbies and we were trying to think of things that could be recycled.
