Oh, I was not using so many needles! Just circs. The big safety pin like things were just holding the stitches - On the slipper on the right, just waiting, as I wanted to do the second one before I forgot what I had done on the first ;) On the left one, I was picking up stitches (knitting the last of the row together with a side one from the sole) as I wanted to avoid sewing, so the safety pin thing was only used once every row...

And i-cord would certainly "tie it up" indeed - but, can you believe I never did i-cord...?

An I-cord is very simple to do. It is knitting on two pegs, I'm not sure how to do on knitting needles as I've only done them on my knitting loom! Luceting might be easier for you, its a very old Viking craft of making cords.

Take a look at this link for making an i-cord. Notice how she tugs the end of the cord down after each row. This is important to create the tube and keep it tidy. Very simple procedure, and it goes pretty fast.

I have never tried double knitting on needles, the video I watched didn't look to bad as long as one can pay attention to what they are doing. You obviously can. Your slippers came out so nice though. This last picture you can really see how the colors switch places.

An i-cord is surprisingly simple. It will depend on how big you want it to be but on needles I believe the best results are from 2 to 5 stitches, 1 stitch would make a chain so that isn't in the i-cord category and over 5 it is just as easy to do circular. Cast on 3 stitches to a dpn or a circ. Knit one row. *Slide your knitting to the opposite end of the dpn or circ and taking your working yarn behind the knitting you will knit those same 3 stitches again*. You will repeat the steps between * *. As you are doing this gently tug down on your knitting and that long strand of yarn that went across the back of you work will disappear into the stitches.

BTW a lucet that was mentioned is just a 2 armed/peg spoolie except it is flat. You can take a plastic fork or like item and take the center prongs out leaving just the two outside and then follow lucet directions.

Or if you don't have time but still want a knitted cord, you can get the Embellish Knit Automatic Spool Knitter. All you do is insert your wool and turn the handle. There are some youtube videos.
