Default Dancing picots and tatting on picots

    Hello all,
i'm looking for info on Riet's Dancing Picots - All I've found about this technique is a picture from Palmetto Tat Days. Would love to know how to make them!

Also, I've come across a couple references to "tatting on picots". I've looked around but no luck, maybe i'm not looking hard enough... what IS tatting on picots??
    Thanks!!

Tatting on picots is a quite old method.

Mary Konior's Curds and Whey pattern uses this method. A central ring with picots to start and then make rings on each of the picots. I made some changes to the process and I like the result better.

Thank you PattyD! your video and explanation are superb! But I do believe what I found refers to something different:
    - "tatting on picots (uses 2nd half of split ring method)", here: http://www.ds9designs.com/okra.shtml
    - and the first sample of this post: http://threadsofatattinggoddess.blog...adventure.html

That technique is usually called Daisy Picot Rings. The second color is an auxiliary thread that makes DS on the picots of the base ring. The way I generally approach it is to tat over tails over the auxiliary thread until the first picot is to start. My approach is to work backside unflipped DS onto the working thread and then turn the auxiliary thread upright so the frontside is visible. The auxiliary DS ride on the picot thread of the base ring. After the auxiliary thread has completed the required number of stitches, return to making normal DS with the wrapped working thread and the base ring shuttle.

Here is a diagram that might help:

Patty, where does the blue thread go between the daisy picots? I see the start, but then?

I sort of think of these as "floating chains", except with a third thread. I am not good at them. I have to re-learn them each time I need one.
I see another video being researched... right, Karen?

Ohhhhhhhhhhh OK!!! Daisy picots I know. I guess this was just another case of "mistaken identity" LOL.

And you're right, Judy, i'm researching for videos, how did you know?!?!?! LOL!!!
I do have a video about Daisy Picots though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CerjxSWeBtU

So, one question solved, one more to go: What about "Dancing Picots"??

Well, having inspected the pictures, the dancing picots leave the auxiliary thread free instead of tatting over tails over them and forms a picot parallel to the DS of the main working thread. So instead of hiding the auxiliary thread between Daisy picots, the auxiliary thread is used to embellish the design.
