    Default thread conditioner?

I was just surfing etsy and trying to resist all the beautiful HDTs since I am nowhere near advanced enough to do them justice and I came across this:

    http://http://www.etsy.com/listing/7...ams?ref=&sref=

Has anyone used it before, or anything like it? What is it used for exactly?

Sorry, but the link doesn't work for me, so I can't comment on that particular one. But thread conditioners in general helps to control the thread. For tatting it helps the thread slide better.

Thread conditioner can help threads slide into knots easier: it can also make it easer to take knots out; it is also used to keep thread from tangling itself into twist-knots. A traditional "thread conditioner" is beeswax. Hand sewers use beeswax to slide along thread to keep it from tangling while sewing. It works, but can yellow the thread. "Thread Heaven" is the name of a thread conditioner that you can find in quilt shops these days that also works well with tatting thread. It doesn't discolor the thread and it does help the thread become more manageable. I was also unable to use the above link -- there may be other products out there.

Will it help with the fuzz the thread gets after a while. I'm using Aunt Lydia's brand crochet cotton just because it was cheap and on sale and I'm just learning. I like the thread fine, it just tends to get fuzzy pretty quick.

It may help -- try it: I've not used Lydia's thread for tatting.

I personally think that 'Thread Heaven" is the best. Not only does it condition the thread but also protects it from UV light. And one little box last a very long time and is easy to use. I could not have untatted 100 rings in size 100 thread without it for the hanky edging I am tatting.

I also use Aunt Lydia's, especially when tatting a large piece that I need to remain cheap to make. But I've never tried a thread conditioner. To be honest, I never thought to. Thanks for the the tip! I'll be trying it out soon.

I've been looking around for thread heaven, but haven't ran across any locally yet... But I've been wondering - do ya'll run the thread through it while you're winding the shuttle, or as you go? Seems like alot of trouble if you'd have to stop & do it for every ring/chain, but if You could run it through as you're winding it on... hmm..

I got mine at either Michaels, Hobby Lobby or JoAnnes. Don't recall now, it was 3 years ago :)
