    Photos Mary's Butterfly

I finally made one of Mary's Butterflies using Lizbeth 40 Purple Splendor. This was the first time I tried this overlapping ring technique and I like it!
I did change ring 8 and ring 16 a little so that I would not have to hide ends(though I know how I avoid if possible). If Mary gives the OK I will share the changes with you.

I really really really like this. Butterflies are my favorite :) I like your color choice and first foray into overlapping rings. Well done!

Thumbs up Re: Mary's Butterfly - My Changes

Thank you Mary! Here are my changes:
Start by leaving a 6 inch thread before ring 1
Follow Mary's pattern for rings 1-7
R8 - 10ds tiny picot 10ds RW (note I did join to anything)
Before ring 16 I turned the piece over and did a lock join with the beginning thread to the tiny picot of ring 8
Turn the piece back over and lock join the shuttle thread to the same tiny picot.
R16 - SSSR 4ds with 6 inch thread carried with the shuttle, 2ds leaving the beginning thread to the front/4ds with a loop of the shuttle thread with the shuttle held to the front and close the SSSR as usual. This actually causes the head to raise a little and both the beginning and ending thread exit the ring in the front. Tie a knot for the end of the antennae and trim. No ends to hide and the antennae are 2ds apart.

Thank you Mary and Rachel. What a pretty butterfly. Not sure I can make it. But some day, I'll try.

Thank you Rachel, and Mary for letting you publish the changes you made, It's a gorgeous butterfly and I love the pattern, I made a pendant from it I think it's in my gallery, only I used too many pearls and it's too heavy. It's also on my blog http://margaretsdesignercards.blogspot.com
