Default Jane Eborall's OTT (over the top) join with Flowery SCMR bookmark

I am a bit confused about the OTT join in the Flowery SCMR bookmark pattern by Jane Eborall. I have looked at her "diagram" but am still having trouble understanding. If you have done this lovely pattern or an OTT join in another pattern, and understand this technique, I would really appreciate your explanation. Many thanks in advance.

I've never tried it, but it's probably not as tricky as it looks. Looks to me that the only way it differs from a regular join is that you pull the loop from around the picot instead of through it. Then secure it with half a lock stitch to make sure it doesn't slip out.

All you do is pass one thread over where you are to join and one under. It is also known as an alligator join and several others. AnneB uses it for her Minor Norwegian Dragon pattern. It just crosses the threads over the previous tatting to go a different area of the tatting.

I knew there must be some of you who had to have used this technique in all the lovely work you do. Thanks you for your help with this. I plan to try this pattern in the next few days and will post my attempts. This will be a challenging one for me so keep your fingers crossed! Again, thank you.

I did this one awhile back and I think once you get into it you will find that it's really a nice little pattern and not as difficult as it seems. Will look forward to seeing your finished pics! Ü

When you are joining the leaves to the flowers, you will want to make sure that one shuttle is above the flowers and one below BEFORE you make the last join of the green chain to the adjacent flower. To make the last 4 stitches of the chain, pull up a loop from the bottom shuttle, make the stitches as usual, then let the chain fall into place. Continue the chain as you usually would (switching working shuttles, if I remember correctly). The OTT join Jane does is not an actual alligator join (and she has pictures), but I like the alligator join and just pulling up a loop rather than a knot around where the join is.
