    Default Case for Tatting Needles

    Hello, everyone.

I am in the process of designing a couple of new cases for holding my tatting needles. They will be lined with wool to prevent tarnishing and I am considering adding a small emery cushion to them as well. Do any of you have any suggestions for how I can improve upon my idea?

One design is like a needle book with "pages" of wool for sorting needles by size.

The other is a roll-up type similar to what I store my crochet hooks in, but with a wool lining.

If these turn out well, I may offer the patterns on my blog.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I found this wallet that I repurposed for holding my tatting. It works GREAT for needles! I think you could add "pages" on the side where I have left the pocket but I like the magnets I added to hold my needles secure.

My only suggestion, after trying to travel with my version, is to have some way to trap the needles when the case is open. Can they go into the felt pages like a pin? I nearly lost mine on a train because the pockets I made were too wide and the needles just slid right out. Fortunately these are big enough to find in a haystack!

Carolivy, that is a cool wallet! Great re-purposing! A side zippered compartment is something to consider. Thanks.

BridgetH, I use a thick 100% wool felt to weave the needles through. They rarely slip out. I suppose I could place a flat magnet in between a couple of felt leaves. Hmmm...

I'll be giving both these ideas some consideration this evening while playing with the designs.

I keep mine in the plastic tube it came in. They have their own section in my fishing box, along with other wooly tools, flower looms, quilling tools, they each have their own section.

I use a long strip of magnet in both of my travel cases--keeps both the needles and the crochet hook from straying too far.

I use the hard case my glasses came in.

I prefer a hard case so the needles don't get bent.

I made my needle tatted case out of one of my glassblown pens and added polymer clay around most of it. They are made out of Pyrex (hard glass), so they are very sturdy. I'll post them on my profile page. They are also on face book: West Pine Creations and my blog: West Pine Creations

I have also re-purposed a wallet like CarolIvy. The checkbook section holds my patterns, the credit card slots hold tools and floss bobbins, and the pen holder has the tube with my needles in it. I also re-purposed a Listerine breath strip container to hold a dab of ThreadHeaven conditioner. Yea! I love tiny and organized stuff!
