    Tat2 Searching for Pentagram pattern

    Hi everyone,

I have been searching for patterns for a tatted pentagram or other protection symbols or reiki symbols but so far I am mostly coming up short.

If I can't find one I'll have a go at coming up with something myself (I'm getting ahead of myself as a beginner )

a pentagram would be rather hard to do without having a frame since tatting is naturally curved. I would think the easiest way would be to make a wire pentagram frame and cover it with double stitches. There are tutorials on how to cover rings you can use to learn the technique.

I actually did one quite some time ago, but didn't write up the pattern, nor can I find a photo. It was done weaved celtic style with chains with rings at the ends. After I made the star shape I made a large ring that went through all the edge rings. I did the same thing to make a star of david too ( http://www.etsy.com/transaction/6175665 ) It's not the same as a pattern, but I thought the info might help you work up your own pattern.

I was experimenting with a double twist on each stitch. It's really time consuming so I don't use the technique much. It does create a neat effect and stiffer chains and rings which is perfect for these designs though.

Got to thinking about this and check out the thread on Tiny Platonic Solids (if I remember the title right), they are not flat but are 3D. But I think I remember a pentagram there, if not for a pendant they might work for earrings.

You could trace out the edge using splitrings.

I've been looking for a pentagram / pentacle pattern too. I've found big patterns but not small ones suitable for jewellery. That celtic star looks promising but the whole weaving thing is beyond me for now !

I've seen a picture of a bunch of stars made of only half DS. They made a really long chain and then formed the pattern and stitched the "Joins". You could try that and put beads or charms at the join points. I've actually thought about making a dream catcher this way, but it's way down on the list of to dos.

I do really like the one on Totusmel's etsy site. onder if there is a way to tat it over a metal hoop.....fun ideas start to flow!
