Help. I know I should know this and I've done a little online looking, but . . .
My M-I-L gave me a box of DMC "Special Dentelles" thread; size 80. which came from her mother. What is the difference between this and DMC's size 80 tatting thread, which I believe is a cordonnet? Z vs S twist or something. Anyone know?

Doing an internet search, it looks like Dentelles is a 3-ply thread; cordonnet is 6-ply. There may be other differences: I'm no expert.

Special Dentelles is tatting thread. I can see no difference between them. The name comes from a time when tatting was the new thing and DMC wanted to capture the audience with a "special" thread.
