    Default Spirals

    42w.jpg
One day I decided to try to tat spiral. I didn't found anything interesting about it and tried to create some universal (you know, I like universal patterns!) way to do it. I used the Archimedes spiral equation as a base. I was not very successful, I must admit. These spirals are tatted from one end (after the flower) to another (before the next flower), they contain downwards picots and something like Catherine Wheel joins, but kind a upside down. The back side looks not very pretty, and the spirals are not very stable themselves. Maybe, somebody knows more about spirals?

Hmm, I haven't seen tatted spirals before and yours seems to be great.. can you show photo of this "not very pretty" back side? I am very curious about it..

Well, you see, these two pictures show front side and back side of the same spiral:

Because of downwards picots back side doesn't look clear. And I don't know how to solve this problem...

I'm impressed! That's not something I would have thought of doing - my brain doesn't work that way. I think you're asking about basic construction, so let's hope PattyD and Linda Davis take a look at it. They are both wonderful about construction issues.

Wow - these are wonderful! Don't worry too much about the backside, it often looks a bit untidy when using two colours, but now you have made me pondering on how you made the spirals. Tatted as you move from one flower to the next without cutting thread? I really should focus on the cats and sheeps I'm tatting. Good thing I'm at my parents place and did not bring two colours of the same thread...

I agree with AnnB, don't worry about the reverse - most crafts have a right side and wrong side, at least you can see which is which.

Stunning!!! I love the way your brain works, Mariya! ;-)

(and no, I don't think I have ever seen a tatted double spiral like that - nothing more than the Catherine Wheel, which I think is a long spiral starting in the centre, or some rosettes that are constructed that way - but always a single spiral)

Mariya, I can't trust my eyes now.. You DON'T KNOW what does it mean "not very pretty", I think your back side is nearly so great as the front one!
I should use another downwards picots (on the bottom of chain), but I am not sure if it should help.. I am going to study how did you do these spirals and I am going to try it..
