I've been reading here and there that Barb Foster of Handy Hands is working on a remake of the English Aero. Has anyone else heard about this? If so, spill the beans, please.

Have you tried e-mailing Barb directly?

Sherry, Celtic DreamWeaver, posted info from Barb about this. The problem with the German and later Aero's is the plastic is not as firm/stable as the original ones. If they can duplicate the plastic (which with all the changes in requlations related to allowed chemicals they may not be able to do) we may have a new, improved Aero type shuttle to use.
That will truely be great! I love the Aero type shuttle but the plastic it is made from is very disappointing!
I'm fond of Aero shuttles, too! I do hope they pull it off.
Yes, I can't wait to see what they are going to be like!
More interesting history about the Aero from Here-Be-Tatters.

The factory which made the Aero shuttles was a few miles away from me and I started off as a kid with their original Milwards shuttles until I learnt how to use an Aero with a bobbin. They also made 'Aero' straight post shuttles out of metal (I think it was metal). Anyway, until yesterday I didn't realise that there were TWO England Aero shuttles even though I've used them for so many years. The following is part of a message that I had from Barb Foster yesterday:-
"I do not know if you know this or not but there are 2 different old shuttles.
1. "Made in England" – this is all it states on the shuttle and is the OLDEST original one-in my opinion is the BEST and those that have this one agree it is the BEST!
2. "Aero Made in England" – this is what it says on the shuttle, this was made second and has a little different design in the middle where the bobbin is.
The "Aero Made in England" one – Pony and Susan bates tried to copied this one.
The "Made in England" – this one is the same as the original Made in Germany ones. – but the mold was used so many times and needs re-worked it finally lost its click click."
I remember the shuttles being made in Germany with carbon hooks which (if you were lucky) stayed in place for a week or so!!! I remember pointing out to the company that this happened and that the shuttles they were now making weren't as good as those made in Redditch. That was about thirty years ago!!!!
Anyway, please don't fret about the shuttle which was sacrificed - another is on it's way to Barb for her collection as I managed to buy a lot of these a few years ago. The one I've sent is the 'Made in England' one.

The original Aeros were made of such a lovely plastic - it feels like satin in the hands, lovely and smooth and mine that I've been using for 20 years still clicks and holds tension perfectly. If Barb can pull this off it would be the most exciting tatting development in years IMHO.
