Default Need help with Vinnies Spring Doily

Some time ago Vinnie was a guest teacher on The Online Tatting Class. Her "Spring Doily" was the day's lesson. The doily is mostly chains. Here is a link.

I haven't tried to figure this one out for awhile but, like a lot of things, it has been on my mind. My problem is at the very begining. In the photo, the chain that is joined to the first ring arcs to the left. When I work the pattern, my chain arcs to the right. Can someone explaine to me what I am doing wrong.

I'm sorry but your link didn't work..... it took me to a a yahoo photo search page. it sounds like it may be as simple as switching shuttles between the ring and the chain.

Sorry about the link. I had some trouble with it, too. I think that I will do as Frivole does with her Maple Leaf pattern and just use an unflipped second half of the ds to make the chain turn. Thanks for getting back to me.

I see your problem. There are only two rows to this doily. The first round goes all the way from the central rings out to almost the edge. In effect, you make a triangle in a continuous line.

The first chain is on the left because you do no reverse work. You need 2 shuttles to work this easily. So the rings in the center are floating rings above the chain. The more typical rings reverse work and are on the opposite side of the chain.

http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2010/vin...pringdoily.pdf Try this one. Its almost identical except for the clover at the outside edge. They both can be done in one piece. I'd start at t h e intersection just outside the inner thrown rings circle.

    Hi Judy,
The link that you have in your post is the doily that is giving me trouble. The very first photo in the pattern is where I have the problem. As you can see, after the chain is joined to the first ring, the chain arcs to the left. When I follow the pattern exactly my chain will arc to the right. There are a couple of ways to make a chain turn. I'll have to experiment. I've been busy crocheting a baby blanket for a friend of the family. I don't know when I'll actually get back to tatting, but I'm almost half way through the blanket. I sure am glad that the air conditioning is on! Thanks again.
