I did a few to remember how and I had the order a little off when I told you earlier. For a split ring with a thrown ring of 4(4-4)4/8 using one needle you need to do the second half of the split ring first-turn over and un thread the needle, make 8 ds with 2nd half first&1st half second and rethread the needle. Then make the first 4 like you usually do, slide them off the needle but don't close the ring. Un thread the needle and use the second thread in the needle to make a true ring of 4-4 and close it. Take that thread out of the needle and put the first thread back in the needle and complete the last 4 stitches and close the ring.
I did a video of how to do this and it is currently uploading.

The video is uploaded. Just click on the picture:

Not sure I described it well. If it doesn't make sense I will redo it for you.

That was pretty clear. Hope it helps her. I was surprised that you put the needle through the loop to close. I thought they were both "true" rings and didn't need that step.

I completely get it now. Thank you so much for the video. Like Judy just said, I had envisioned the split ring and the thrown off ring as true rings. I love the video - it was very good and your explanation was very clear. When you closed the RoSR, I noticed you put the needle back through the ring before tightening it closed. I have done this in my shuttle tatting and most of the time it seems to make a better looking ring that lays better, but I test tatted a bookmark the other day for Frivole, and there are clovers on all four corners. Well when I did this it made them look a little wonky so I am wondering if it is because with clovers you don't reverse to form the next ring or what. I guess my question is how do you know when to do this? I want to thank you, xstchntat again for taking the time to make the video. I will be referring back to it so that leads me to another question: Are the archives of forum posts and media attachments available for some time on InTatters?

Well, the stuff around here is pretty stable. Sometimes very old threads are "edited" and compressed so they're shorter. The whole site is a sort of archive. JUST use the search box in the upper right corner of IT and you can find all these links. .. if the stuff on the other end is just as stable.

Judy, this was the easy way. Grandma did teach me to do them where they are both true rings, but it is way fiddlier to do. Since I started the shuttle I haven't done it(over 3years ago). I will practice and do another video for you tomorrow.
