Ok.... For what it is worth...... I just had to try my idea and see if it would work like I thought.... and it does...... sort of. It works but it is VERY VERY fiddly and not really worth the effort ( IMHO) but I thought I would post it anyway.Edging test.jpg

(leaving a long tail to wrap around my fingers when I started the pearl stitches) LS, chained 8, LS, left a bare thread gap of both threads (for 6 or 7 pearl stitches on the way back up), LS, chained 4-4, LS, left a bare thread gap of both threads (for 18 or 19 pearl stitches), LS, bead, 18 or 19 the pearl stitches back up the gap of bare thread. chain 4-4, 6 or 7 pearl stitches back up the first gap of bare thread, chain 8, LS, bare thread gap, LS, 4+4 (join to the picot of the second set of 4-4), LS, second gap of bare thread, LS, bead and continue back up the bare thread with the pearl stitches.

The first chain, chain ring, and pearl stitches are plain and simple enough, but the problem is the second set of pearl stitches above the second chain ring after you have made the join.... especially with shuttles, you are basically making the stitches with a hook and loops of thread, similar to doing a lot of joins (like larks head joins?) but alternating sides.... it can get very confusing and is very slow going. The other thing I didn't like is just the logistics of trying to hold on to the thing and then the thread kept getting tangled up with the dangling chains when doing the pearl stitch chains. Maybe I'm just too impatient to go any further. I'm sure someone with figure out a better way.

Fiddly or not, it is definitely in the same family as the original! Looks pretty cool.
