Anitra would be better to explain this than me, and my brain is failing me as I should have been in bed two hours ago and don't have the notes handy. The tail is an "ordinary" ring (that is: not a split ring) and the first splitring have two colours on both halves. Not as easy as just swaping working thread, but not hard either. Sorry, might be able to give a better explanation after a one nights sleep...

You are doing all the tricks that Maltese does, but in a different way. I am itching to try this and see if the thread manipulation differences make this a more approachable technique (the vintage Maltese technique can be quite fiddly). I also like that the double core gives the work more presence.
it kinda looks like the technique in "Tatting GR-8 Alternate Threads"

This one? I don't see any twists in their examples, I may have a minor variation in some of mine.
I think you have a new twist. I think anything that makes it easier to do multi-thread tatting is a good thing and more of an invitation to try new things.
loop tatted rings... i believe that was a new one. but yes coming up with something new is difficult. i have the book, i just haven't tried the technique.

yes that was the book i was referring to. man how cool would that be to find something new to do with tatting.
