    Default Pin placement?

Coming across patterns that do not show pin placement (such as the one at the top of this page
http://encajeras.wordpress.com/tag/p...e-de-bolillos/ ), I am wondering how you know where the pins should be. Do you lay the pattern on a grid and choose pin placement based on that? Thanks :)

If you mean separate dots, in some tape laces, like the one you are referring to, anywhere that 2 lines meet is where the workers change direction and require a pin. It works just as well as separate pinholes. Torchon doesn't have the same situation in that it is working a ground across a wider area and tape laces essentially are more like a beginner's bandage (a strip of cloth stitch (CTC), half stitch (CT), cloth stitch and twist (CTCT), pin under 2 edge, pin under 4 edge, etc.)

I worked a coffee pot in tape lace and the pattern was drawn the same way. The zig zag line is not an approximation. It does tell you exactly where to put the pins.

Thanks Patty, and I did in fact think that things like this zigzag in handrawn patterns were an appoximation.
Do you have a photo of the coffee pot you did? I would love to see it if you do.

Hi everyone am new to tatting. Like the needle tatting but I always wanted to learn bobbin lace so I brought everything I needed for it. I wish there was a class here in Manhattan, NY to learn it. Any way Michelea love the patterns one day i'll be able to do them n for those who do god bless you.

Angie, I have taught some people how to make bobbin lace online. Take lots of pictures and use colored threads so that you can tell which one is who. If you are up for it, we can give it a try!
