Default New Tatters: Don't be scared of SCMR's

I have only been shuttle tatting for about 2 months. I needle tatted for about a month before that, so in all I have been tatting for about 3 months. Since learning shuttle I have stayed away from all patterns that say SCMR because I didn't want to learn a new technique. In other words I was scared. I just watched the video on youtube and I was prepared to take notes and everything....then surprise, surprise, surprise. It is exactly like needle tatters make rings. The funny thing is I had seen needle tatters asking questions about SCMR's when reading patterns and people replying saying that they were already doing it. That is just the way needle tatting works. I just didn't really connect it. SCMR's are nothing to be afraid of...LOL. So now I just have to work on SSSR's and I can do AnneB's dragon. :)

SCMR... self-closing mock rings. What shuttle tatters and needle tatters both have to remember to do when closing chains is to put the shuttle through the loop if you want a ring. If you forget, you get a chain instead of a ring. "mock"... a term meaning "fake", because they're not the "true" rings made with either just a shuttle, or a needle and thread (no ball).

I haven't tried AnneB's dragon yet, I will, someday. Does it required Single Shuttle Split rings? I haven't learned that one yet. I do know SCMR and split rings.
Trust God to deliver in His own unique way.
